The History of Caterham Cars

Caterham are a British company specialising in the manufacture of lightweight sports cars. Founded in 1973 in Caterham, the company moved its headquarters to Dartford, Kent in 1987. Their current model is the Caterham 7 which was originally launched in 1973 as an evolution of the Lotus 7 designed by Colin Chapman. Traditionally, the engines for Caterham cars have been supplied by Ford, the Ford Kent or Cosworth.

Caterham cars are available to buy in kit form which allows enthusiasts to build their own car. While other manufacturers also offer kit cars, Caterham is the only one who supplies the parts ready to assemble without the need for any fabrication. 

Caterham had an involvement in formula 1 between 2012 and 2014 when team Lotus changed their name to Caterham F1 however, this association ended due to financial constraints.
