The Pagid RS29 (now commonly referred to as RSL29) is Pagid’s famous “Yellow” endurance racing compound. It is a low-metallic, resin-bonded friction material containing steel and aramid fibres, designed specifically for endurance racing and heavy track use.

Why they’re so popular

The RS29 was developed from the older RS19 compound and offers:

• Excellent pad life
• Very low disc wear
• Consistent friction throughout a long race
• Excellent pedal feel and modulation
• Easy bedding-in
• Stable performance over long sessions without fade

These qualities have made them a favourite in endurance events such as Le Mans, where teams have successfully completed races without changing pads or discs.

Compared with other track compounds

• Pagid RS14 (Black): More aggressive bite, higher friction, shorter life.
• Ferodo DS1.11: Similar endurance capability, slightly stronger initial bite.
• Hawk DTC-60: More aggressive initial bite but generally higher disc wear.
• EBC RP-X: Good sprint pad, but RS29 typically lasts considerably longer.

My view

If you’re looking for one of the best all-round endurance race pads, the RS29/RSL29 is difficult to beat. It sacrifices a little initial bite compared with sprint compounds, but rewards you with:

• Exceptional longevity
• Low rotor wear
• Predictable braking lap after lap

For endurance racing and fast track-day use, it’s still considered one of the benchmark compounds available.
